| Washinton D.C. Trip Page is Ready for View! Click Here Washington Grade six begins their social studies study by learning about the shape of the earth and the meaning of the word culture. During the school year they will study the culture of early human life, Egypt, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Ancient and Modern Europe, Africa, E.Asia, Australia, and Central and South America. As in grade seven and eight, geography will be interwoven throughout the chapters. Grades Seven and Eight both study American History, using Glencoe's American Journey. Grade seven concentrates on the American Revolution and studies how our nation developed from the first president to the war with Mexico. They then will study the Civil War in depth, finishing the the post Civil War period. Any documentaries parents or students may have would be much appreciated. Grade Eight begins with World War I, the Great Depression and World War II,and continues into Korea, Viet Nam and the Gulf War Recently Grade Eight was fortunate enough to have two Vietnam Veterans visit their class and supplement their unit on the Vietnam Conflict with a fascinating presentation of their experiences during the war. On Thursday, May 10, Mr. Lipski landed a Huey Helicopter at Memorial Beach Field, and junior high students were given the opportunity to examine the Huey, listen to Mr. Lipski tell all about how it works, and even have their pictures taken sitting in the cockpit It was quite an experience!
