On April 13 through the 17, 2010 the seventh and eighth grade students
will be traveling to Washington D.C., to learn first-hand about their
country's Capital. We will travel by Motorcoach, arranged through
Gerber Travel, Inc. Chaperones will be chosen from interested
parents, and will include Father Marcotte and Mrs.C and Mrs. Marchand.
Our itinerary will include visits to all of the major memorials,
including the World War II, Jefferson, Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt,
Iwo Jima, Vietnam, Women's, Korea and many others. We will spend
Wednesday morning at the Holocaust Museum, and the afternoon at the
Smithsonian's many buildings. We visit the home of George Washington,
Mount Vernon, and Arlington National Cemetery where we will see
the changing of the guard at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier as well as
the Kennedy Grave sites. This year we have added a new feature- "Little Shop of Horrors" at Ford's Theatre!
We have obtained special passes to the Capitol Building through
Congressman Neal's office, so we can avoid the long lines and hours of
waiting.
The estimated cost of the trip is TBA. This includes transportation,
four nights’ hotel, breakfasts at the hotel, three dinners, the
Washington Tour Guides, and all entrance fees. There will be a meeting of all chaperones, and any interested parents where we will answer any questions and map out
responsibilities .
On a date TBA we will be hosting a Dinner/Auction to help defray costs
of
some lunches students would be responsible for. Through the generosity
of the PTFA, and the Ad Drive we hope to cover the cost of the
picture of the class in front of the Capitol Building, and a Subway
lunch on the trip down.
