| This fall, Saint Louis School will be continuing the John Collins Writing Program for all grades, across the curriculum. The Collins Writing Program has been in existence for twenty years and is an established long-term teacher training and consulting program. The Collins Education Associate's mission is to deliver high quality, cost-effective training and resources to improve student's communication skills--especially written communication. All workshops and materials go through a long development process. Everything they produce is based on the best research and practice, must be tested in classrooms under a range of teaching conditions, and must make the most difficult job of the writing teacher-- planning, evaluating, and classroom management--easier. The philosophy of the CEA is the belief that writing enhances the learning process of any subject at any level. To help teachers encourage students, they have developed a model for a writing -to-learn-across-the-curriculum program by defining five types of writing assignments.
